[THE BOAT IS SINKING OH GODS THE BOAT IS SINKING WHY IS IT SINKING
cue one (1) girl frantically trying to bail the water out with a bucket which is... entirely ineffective. dammit, this was supposed to be a quick fishing trip, not whatever the hell this is!!
eventually she's left flailing in the water, desperately trying to keep herself afloat. wearing heavy clothing wasn't a very good idea, in retrospect, plus her boots are weighing her down. so the trying to stay afloat thing isn't really working out.
shit shit shit fuck fuck shit fuck she's gonna drown!!]
A-aahh- fuck fuck fuckflhgh- [whoops down she goes beneath the rolling waves.]

Ichirin isn't a princess, though she does have a rather overbearing father. Unzan was too protective. she has a perfectly innocent curiosity in the land-dwellers' world, she has more common sense than to fall in love with one and sell out her voice and soul to try to be together. what a silly story.
speaking of land-dwellers, she'd been tracking this ship for a while. it was like birdwatching. just a hobby of hers. only in this case, the bird had crashed into a window and now lay twitching on the grass. metaphorically.
literally, the sailor she'd been watching over like a rare bird had dropped into free-fall into the sea.
she really shouldn't, but she debates with herself for only a second before flipping her fins and giving chase to Murasa's descent. ]

technicalities aside she's still flailing and sinking, struggling to shed her boots and heavy clothes. bubbles froth from her mouth and nose- apparently she's not holding her breath in very well- and her movements become more sluggish by the second.
her crappy boat is already far below her, fading into the deeper depths.]
no subject
she stops just out of arms' reach from the sailor.
she'd never actually touched a human before. ]
It'd be bad for you to go any deeper down, you know.
no subject
or is that the lack of oxygen making her hear things
Murasa's gonna lose consciousness soon, though. she's not moving now, save for a few feeble twitches and one or two small bubbles leaving her slack jaw.
she's going deeper down!!]

[ she really... shouldn't... help. humans drowned all the time, surely. not having gills is so inconvenient. there's nothing to be gained by this at all.
but she reaches out to touch one of the tiny bubbles. then Murasa's wrist, gently--maybe she still has strength to pull away or notice her. ]
no subject
no response, except for another twitch. hurry up Ichirin, Murasa's running out of time and I'm running out of ideas for bracket filler.]

or deal with her dragging Murasa surfaceward. slowly. don't die in the progress, or do, either works. ]
no subject
that's silly, though. there can't be fire underwater.]

just wait a second.
just wait. a. second.
-she retches violently, seawater spilling from her mouth and nose. gross. just. wait. a. second. and her heaving eventually turn into coughs, hurriedly gasping for air.
she swallowed/inhaled a lot of water ok?? oh my god her throat and sinuses are on fire help.]
no subject
she quickly kicks back, still arms-length and clutching Murasa's, but hopefully out immediate vomitrange. maybe. maybe she'll just wait for the sailor's bodily functions to recover from near death for a moment, sure. ]
no subject
she opens her eyes. and stares. blinks. stares some more.]
... Hey.
[real smooth. but she's still out of breath so more words will have to come later.]
no subject
[ an equally smooth reply, obviously. she starts making her way towards land--it'll take a while, but maybe if Murasa stays disoriented she won't necessarily blow her mermaid cover yet.
don't look down at her tail ok. ]
no subject
[come to think of it there weren't any boats around at all. she slowly reaches to poke Ichirin's face, as if to confirm she's real flesh and blood.
and no, she doesn't notice the fish tail yet.]
no subject
[ ... well it's not a lie. the whole sea was about what she considered 'the area'.
time to high-tail it back to land slightly faster. no emphasis on tail--don't look back. ]
no subject
oh my gosh???]
You're- you- that-- you're-- [so articulate!!]
Mermaid?!
no subject
I... no, I think not! You're seeing things from having water in your eyes, miss!
[ frantic splashing towards land intensifies-- ]
no subject
touching Ichirin's face with both hands yes hello.]
H-haaaah... a mermaid rescued me...
no subject
S-stop that! You were quite careless in nearly drowning back there!
no subject
You saved my life! I- I would've died if you hadn't-!
no subject
If you could loosen your grip, I could get us back to land more quickly!

[CLINGING LIKE A LIMPET enjoy]

It's... it's Ichirin. Um. It's nice to meet you, Murasa?
